Dazhi Sun A/Prof.

Dr. Sun received his Bachelor and Master Degrees in Chemical Engineering at Tsinghua University in 2002 and 2005, respectively, and PhD in Materials Science and Engineering at Polymer Technology Center in Texas A&M University under the supervision of Prof. Hung-Jue Sue in 2009. After 3-year post-doc research at Center for Functional Nanomaterials in Brookhaven National Laboratory in USA with Dr. Oleg Gang, he returned to China and joined Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech) in Shenzhen as an associate professor in Department of Materials Science and Engineering in December 2012. In September 2015, he was appointed as the Academic Vice Dean of Zhicheng College in SUSTech. Dr. Sun's research interests focus on Soft Materials, including colloidal dispersions and self-assembly, nanostructure synthesis and modification, engineering plastics, polymer composites and nanocomposites, experimental soft matter physics, bio-inorganic nanomaterials and so on. Dr. Sun is also the recipient of national "1000-Youth Talent" and Shenzhen "Peacock Plan"of 2013.

Dr. SUN Dazhi's Research Group - Soft Materials Engineering Laboratory

Soft Matter is an important class of materials, the physical properties of which are determined by their interactions, structures and dynamics at mescoscopic scales. Soft materials include colloids, suspensions, emulsions, gels, polymers, liquid crystals, biomaterials, and so on. The study on soft matter is highly multidisciplinary. We use the knowledge from physics, chemistry, biology, materials science and engineering, chemical engineering, biomedical engineering, as well as electrical engineering to understand soft matter. We fabricate useful materials and devices for various structural and functional engineering applications.

Specific research areas include:
